Sandia National Laboratories Intern - Center for Analysis Systems and Applications (CASA) R&D Graduate Summer in Albuquerque, New Mexico
We are seeking an Intern Summer - R&D Grad
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Join existing project teams in designing, developing, implementing, testing, and delivering advanced data processing and exploitation software for complex, real-time analysis systems that support remote sensing (both space-based and ground-based)
- Work in a collaborative and learning environment and assume significant responsibilities for assisting in the development of first-of-a-kind software solutions and data exploitation methods to solve challenging technical problems for national security needs
- Engineer software that supports capture, analysis, representation, and dissemination of information to support decision-making
- Skills within the center include: systems analysis and engineering; software engineering and development; data analysis, interrogation, and exploitation; advanced digital signal processing; geophysics and seismology; modeling and simulation; development for Multicore and GPU; and algorithm development and implementation
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Earned bachelor's degree
- Currently attending and enrolled full time (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- U.S. citizenship

- GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.0 for all degrees earned
- Relevant experience in scientific/engineering application software development
- Working knowledge/experience with object-oriented software development (Java / C++)
- Working knowledge/experience with UNIX, Linux, and Windows environments
- Experience/education in a subset of the following: user interfaces, scientific data visualization, systems engineering, distributed system design, data exploitation/mining/fusion algorithms and systems, digital signal processing, image processing, numerical analysis, modeling and simulation, relational databases, software and information technologies and environments (e.g., MatLab, STK, UML, Oracle database, MS Office Suite), software development for multi-core/GPU/parallel computing
- Experience with relevant application and mission domains (ground systems/data centers/operations centers, remote sensing, sensor technologies, proliferation detection, monitoring and surveillance)
- Experience with large, complex scientific and technical systems development
- An existing U.S. Government granted security clearance
The Center for Analysis Systems and Applications (CASA) is an internship program that gives students the opportunity to develop next-generation software systems for compelling national security missions. Interns work alongside professional staff on some of the most complex and challenging data analysis problems that our nation faces. Collaborate with a team of software engineering experts developing a variety of significant mission applications, including remote sensing, data analysis, and real-time applications. Projects range from small R&D efforts to large, multi-disciplinary teams developing software for large, complex integrated systems.
The CASA program is managed on behalf of the Systems Mission Engineering Center (6300). We are responsible for the analysis, design, and implementation of complex data analysis systems associated with multi-sensor and heterogeneous sensor applications to assist in the detection, location, and characterization of events and activities of interest. Our work involves the research and development of algorithms and applications that assist users in the processing, exploitation and dissemination of data and information for compelling nonproliferation and national security missions. We create first-of-a-kind data analysis systems, subsystems, and analysis tools to provide innovative solutions for our customers that others cannot achieve. We design, build, deploy, and enhance analysis systems that transform data to information to knowledge to decisions. These systems are targeted for a range of applications, including: remote sensing systems; data acquisition, management, and fusion; distributed computing and analysis; modeling and simulation; and both real-time and off-line data processing, analysis, exploitation and dissemination.
