The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston’s Regional and Community Outreach department is seeking a graduate student intern with a background in law, public policy, economics, sociology or a related field to work on a research and writing project relating to policies affecting the quality of jobs of low-income workers.
The Regional & Community Outreach department serves the Boston Fed’s community affairs function, promoting the economic growth of low- and moderate-income communities in the New England region. We provide policymakers and practitioners with objective, high-quality research and analysis of the economic challenges facing low- and moderate-income workers and potential solutions to address these problems.
This internship will focus specifically on issues affecting the quality of jobs of low-income workers, including minimum wage, sick leave, family and medical leave, scheduling, outsourcing, income instability and worker voice. The intern will be expected to conduct a thorough literature review of the academic research and the laws and bills in the New England region pertaining to one or more of these topics. The intern will then summarize and present the information in the form of objective, well-cited issue briefs. The position requires outstanding research, writing and analytical skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Familiarity with the subject matter is a plus.
