Compliance Analytics is responsible for improving the scale and performance of the regulatory controls environment within JPMC, using the power of data analytics. Our scope of work includes Sanction Screening, Anti Money Laundering (AML), Trade Surveillance, and other areas around financial crimes monitoring.
We have a global role, and we interact with major stakeholders such as business Compliance (covering all of JPMC’s lines of businesses and countries of operation), Operations, Model Review and Technology. We also interact with external groups such as Regulators and industry peers.
Our work includes developing statistical models to identify suspicious and high risk activity, and executing those models across all of JPMC’s countries of operation and lines of businesses. This is a fast developing space and requires a combination of analytical creativity, mathematical and statistical skills sets, and analytical execution experience on large datasets.
The Compliance Analytics group at JPMorgan Chase & Co is looking for a Summer Intern to assist with building Sanctions Screening models that check the Bank’s data for the presence of individuals and business entities on government and other regulatory watchlists.
The tasks performed by the Summer Intern will contribute to effective quantitative problem solving and analytical research and delivery for projects requiring large amounts of data from multiple sources, and create meaningful, clear output.
The position will be at the Analyst level, and runs from July to mid-September, with possibilities for extension subsequently.
We are looking for the following skills and qualifications:
B.A./B.S. or higher degree in Computer Science or related field, with coursework in Computational Linguistics or Natural Language Processing
Facility with text-matching operations and regular expressions in Python, Java, or similar language
Experience with statistical and data mining tools, such as SQL, SAS, R or Python and applying them to business decisions
Ability to prototype code quickly, and work across languages
Familiarity with software engineering principles for production of robust code
Ability to handle multiple projects/work streams with minimal/little oversight. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities to meet business needs. Excellent organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise written work products/presentations using PowerPoint. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
