Comedy Development Intern - Sony Pictures Television, Fall 2017

Comedy Development is responsible for taking an idea/pitch and having it ordered to an on air series. We are submitted materials, hear the pitches, acquire the rights and sell the project to the network. After it is sold we provide deadlines and give notes on every draft of material submitted. Should the project be ordered to pilot, we assist creatively in the casting, production and post-production process until the pilot is ordered to series. Should it be ordered to series, we staff the shows with Writers and Producers we have tracked or have overall deals with.

We are also constantly looking for new Writers/Directors/Producers to be in business with. This entails working for us on a specific project, purchasing their original idea or signing them to an overall deal. We are therefore receiving a constant stream of material that needs to be read/seen and meetings/calls that need to be set to further pursue.

Responsibilities:

  • Research writers, directors and talent in order to help us better package projects

  • Provide coverageon submitted materials such as available specs, staffing samples and shot formats

  • Taking notes oncalls and operating multi line phones

  • Assist in monitoring the status of active projects by updating grids

  • Attendcasting sessions for comedy pilots in development

  • Attend table reads for comediescurrently in production

  • Learn how to pitch an idea/script and to give notes on pitches

  • Learn how to give/receive notes on scripts that are in development

  • Learn how to set meetings and calls between networks, studios and production companies

Qualifications:

  • Passion for comedy and knowledge of stand-up/sketch/feature/TV comedies

  • Organized and detail oriented

  • Multitasker

  • Microsoft Office

SPE’s Fall Intern 2017 Program is a 12-week part-time program from September 25-December 15, 2017. All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited degree program for the entire duration of their internship and must be available for the full 12-week session.
