Sony Pictures Entertainment Participation Reporting Intern, Corporate Finance, Fall 2017 in Culver City, California

Participation Reporting Intern, Corporate Finance, Fall 2017

The Participations Reporting handles the abstracting and preparation of statements to third parties, including talent, investors, and other studios. These statements are based on terms outlined in individual contracts, and the group issues in excess of 20,000 statements per year, and includes a VP, three executive directors, managers, and statement preparers. The department also handles participant queries and works closely with the various business units on Participations- and other business-related issues, such as cash-flow forecasts and ultimates review. Currently, the department is converting to a new Participations reporting system called PAWS.

Responsibilities:

The intern will be working on two major projects: preparation of statements and assisting in converting statements to the new Participations reporting system (PAWS). This involves reading abstracts of agreements, running statement reports, reconciling data, and preparing the statement. As part of the conversion process, the intern will also create statement models in the new system, convert and reconcile data, and generate statements for management review. The intern will be expected to communicate status, questions, and results to his manager, particularly as it relates to meeting assigned deadlines, and will participate in staff and update meetings.

In this role, the intern will learn the principles of contract accounting, and will apply accounting skills learned in the classroom to real-world examples. This hands-on experience will also include working with enterprise finance systems such as SAP, in addition to specialized reporting systems such as PAWS. The intern will be introduced to the basics of data analysis, researching and resolving reconciliation issues, and participating in groups meetings and discussions.

Qualifications:

Qualifications include: enrollment in an accredited college/university for the duration of the internship; basic to advanced Excel skills; working knowledge of other MS Office products such as Word and Powerpoint; ability to read and understand legal documents; knowledge of accounting principles and systems; ability to work independently, and ability to work in a team environment; good communication skills, both written and verbal.

SPE’s Fall Intern 2017 Program is a 12-week part-time program from September 25-December 15, 2017. All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited degree program for the entire duration of their internship and must be available for the full 12 week session.
