U.S. Business Affairs Intern—Sony Pictures Television, Summer 2017 Internship

SPT U.S. Business Affairs executives negotiate and draft the various deals for talent (Producers, Writers, Directors, Rights Holders, Consultants and Actors) on our television series, pilots & upcoming development projects, as well as license fee & other agreements with broadcasters of our programming. In addition to typical administrative duties, negotiators' assistants internally distribute drafts of the deals to keep other departments informed, and also retain these documents, physically & electronically, for historical reference and research. The Business Affairs Administration team ensures that payments to all parties are made in strict accordance with the negotiated deals and relevant guild requirements.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Compile financial analysis ofexisting pilots and series

  • Study select deal documents and take notes on negotiation calls with various executives

  • Ensure that reference binders reflect the most current deal documents

  • Audit the electronic reference library and verify that it accurately reflects the physical library

The intern will gain experience/exposure to the following:

  • Negotiation tactics and strategy

  • Fundamental financial structure of the studio business model

  • Parameters of and language used in television studio deals

  • Purposes of and proper procedures for distribution and retention of business critical documents


  • Junior or Senior level student in a pre-law or business administration program preferred

  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Interest in and knowledge ofcurrent television and movies

  • Ability to work without constant supervision and a willingness to ask questions when necessary

  • Self-starter who can balance professionalism and assertiveness

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

SPE’s Fall Intern 2017 Program is a 12-week part-time program from September 25-December 15, 2017. All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited degree program for the entire duration of their internship and must be available for the full 12-week session.
