US Television Sales & Distribution Intern - Sony Pictures Television, Fall 2017 Internship

Sony Pictures Television's Distribution Sales Planning Department manages the distribution of feature film and television inventory across multiple lines of distribution, including basic cable, pay television, subscription-video-on-demand (Netflix, Hulu+, Amazon Prime), broadcast and local syndication, and Sony's domestic networks. Sales Planning is responsible for a large breadth of inventory and deal analytics that support all key stakeholders in the content distribution process. Sales Planning functions range from very specific analysis of individual properties to overall examination of the portfolio as a whole.


  • Maintenance & update of product databases, spreadsheets, and charts, insuring their timeliness and accuracy

  • Provide detailed research that supports the deal-making process for linear television and on-demand platforms

  • Track numerous titles, series, and episodes and their licensing activity

  • Mapping and distribution of title metadata to improve insights into Sony's film and television library

  • Liaise with various departments such as Sales, Business Affairs, Contract Administration, Technical Operations

Experience and Exposure:

  • Introduction to the "life cycle" of films following their theatrical and home video release; how are they sold to networks

  • Learn the various elements that contribute to success in the television licensing process

  • Exposure to the long-range planning necessary to the best strategic use of a major studio's film and television series throughout their distribution cycles

  • Broaden knowledge of the Columbia Pictures catalog as well as Hollywood history and their value in today's media landscape


  • Enrollment in an accredited college/university for the duration of the internship is required

  • Strong interest in media and technology and the distribution of intellectual property

  • Enthusiasm for the art and commerce of film and television

  • Existing ability or capable of immediate development of advanced MS Excel technique (formulas, pivot tables, charts)

  • Proficiency with Word and Powerpoint

  • Organizational and time-management skills and the ability to work independently are essential

SPE’s Fall Intern 2017 Program is a 12-week part-time program from September 25-December 15, 2017. All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited degree program for the entire duration of their internship and must be available for the full 12-week session.
