The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) is an engineering organization that focuses on product producibility and mission assurance. It is a vital link in the integrated product development process that allows Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems to introduce reliable new products faster, better, and more economically. The candidate’s specific work will vary but may include the following: Program and operate Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Chip on Board (COB) equipment to build production hardware Provide manufacturing engineering support to the Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) operations in El Segundo Develop planning and Assembly Instruction documents for CCAs Review designs for producibility Develop and implement materials and processes, process improvements, and equipment selection using established statistical process control techniques, experimental designs, material analysis, and mechanical design analysis. Evaluation of materials, equipment and processes (including qualification, acceptance testing, and specification development including interfacing with key internal and external suppliers to resolve technical issues The chosen candidate will learn frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, concepts and techniques. Candidates will be expected to provide recommendations to a variety of technical problems of appropriate scope and complexity, working under general supervision. For Multi-Level Intern Requisitions: This position can be a Salary Grade of G04, G05 or NUG based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position. G04 (College Junior by Fall 2018) - must have completed 60 hours of college G05 (College Senior by Fall 2018) - must have completed 90 hours of college NUG (Post- Graduate-Masters-PhD by Fall 2018) - must have an undergraduate degree and currently enrolled or about to enroll in a graduate degree program Required Skills: The candidate should have strong technical aptitude as shown by strong grades and/or hands on experience The candidate must be available for a minimum of ten weeks between May and October Desired Skills: Have strong technical aptitude as shown by strong grades or hands on lab experience Must be able to work easily within a team environment. Must have excellent written & oral skills Must be self-motivated, proactive and able to multi-task. Must demonstrate ability to deliver quality & timely results Demonstrated leadership experience through school or extracurricular projects is a plus.
