Internship – Bacterial Vaccines department Janssen Vaccines & Prevention (m/f)

We are looking for a for 4th year MLO/HLO student for an internship at the Bacterial Vaccines department (BacVac) of Janssen Vaccines & Prevention in Leiden.
The Bacterial Vaccines department is a team of 50‐60 dedicated people of multiple nationalities, working on the development of vaccines that help to combat infectious diseases/infections like Extra‐intestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC) and pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus.
The Process development (PD) sub‐team of our department is working on the development and improvement of the manufacturing and purification processes required to produce these vaccines. Most processes are divided in Upstream
processing (USP) and Downstream processing (DSP) activities.
The USP activities include the cultivation of the bacterial production host strains in bioreactors up to 10L scale, and the improvement of this part of the process.
Currently we are looking for a 4th year MLO/HLO student to support us in these
activities. The candidate will work together with BacVac personnel in the day to day activities. These activities will be mainly hands‐on lab activities. The candidate will acquire knowledge on bioreactor cultivation of micro‐organisms, assays involved in the process, safe working with BSL‐I/II biological agents, data analysis and presentation skills.
4th year MLO/HLO student Biochemistry/Biotechnology
Please note that you need a residence permit which states you are
allowed to work in the Netherlands or a residence permit which states
you are enrolled to a Dutch university if you want to apply for an
internship at Janssen.
Culture of micro‐organisms
General knowledge of biochemical analytical methods such as
SDS‐PAGE, total protein determination, etc.
Experience with bioreactor systems (preferable)
The suitable candidate is flexible, eager to learn, independent,motivated to go the extra mile and not afraid to communicate in English.
