About the Position:

This is a Student Trainee (Administrative & Office Support), GS-0399-02 Summer Hire position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Little Rock District. This appointment is temporary not to exceed 120 days.

The nature of this appointment does not guarantee conversion to a career/career-conditional appointment as it is only intended to fill a temporary need of the organization.

Students who are eligible for participation in the Department of the Army Internship Program

Positions are open to current students pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution.

Proof of current/future enrollment (ex. transcript, class schedule, enrollment verification, etc) is required at the time of application. Applicants who graduated in Spring 2017 MUST submit proof of continuing education in order to be considered for a summer internship.

Proof of future enrollment will be verified before appointment. Students must also be taking (at least) a half-time course load, as defined by the school.

Duties

As an Intern, your supervisor will closely control work and provide assignments. You will perform tasks that are recurring in nature, and work will be checked for accuracy and completeness. The purpose of this position is to provide general office support and assistance to the organizational unit and the following are some of the tasks involved in this position:

  • Answer calls and deliver telephone messages
  • Create and print a variety of standardized correspondence, reports, memoranda, and tabular material
  • Transmit, receive, and acknowledge electronic mail and messages
  • Type labels, envelopes and simple forms
  • Date-stamp and route incoming mail
  • Perform simple filing duties
  • Update manual logs
  • Operate fax machines and copy machines

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this internship has completed High School or has a GED and is enrolled in college. Candidate has or is currently taking classes related to administrative work such as business, computer or data entry.
