Yale University Intern, Athletic Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut

Position Focus: Reports to Head Athletics Trainer. Provides care for injuries to athletes. In conjunction with physician or Head Athletic trainer, devises a treatment plan and carries out rehabilitative techniques. Assesses effectiveness of treatment plan recommends modified courses of action. Recommends and administers policies on fitness and medical care of injuries. This position is a ten month (August - May) fixed duration position and may be renewed for one additional term. Requires travel, work on weeknights and weekends. Schedule will change weekly based on operational needs. This is a limited earnings position.

Essential Duties 1. Under the supervision of the Head Trainer, treats and rehabilitates athletes to return to full activity levels. 2. Conducts pre-season screening and conditioning to prevent injuries during competitions. 3. Administers first aid and emergency techniques. 4. Recommends new or modified care treatment; documents treatments, referrals, and injury reports. 5. Determines methods for educating both athletes and coaching staff on proper training techniques and modalities. 6. In conjunction with team physician, determines when an athlete has completed a rehabilitation program and can resume an appropriate level of activity. 7. Travels with and/or oversees assigned varsity sport team.

Required Education and Experience Bachelor's of Science degree in Physical Therapy or Allied Health Sciences.
