JOB SUMMARY:

The Office of Economic Opportunity is looking for an Intern to support the Workforce Department. This five-person team helps to develop and implement the governor’s priorities and strategies related to workforce development across the state. Currently, this team staffs the State Workforce Development Board and provides economic analysis to partner agencies within the workforce system.

JOB DUTIES:

  • General office/administrative tasks

  • Communicate persuasively and accurately with stakeholders in various roles and at various levels

  • Schedule and coordinate meetings and events

  • Represent the department at meetings, conferences and events

  • Assist with staff meetings of various councils and committees, including preparing collateral and agendas, taking notes and minutes

  • Assist in research activities and development of presentations

  • Assist in records storage and maintenance

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Research techniques

Skill In:

  • Writing

  • Presentation techniques

  • Time Management

  • Building relationships

  • MS Office Suite (Outlook and PowerPoint)

Ability To:

  • Effectively communicate in both a verbal and written manner

  • Maintain professional demeanor always

  • Remain resilient in the face of complex or adverse situations

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

  • Will be given to those candidates that are pursuing a degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Communications or Business.

KNOWLEDGE TO BE GAINED BY INTERN:

  • Develop general office skills and practical command of office technologies

  • Build and nurture relationships with high-level professionals and government officials

  • Enhanced understanding of the nature and function of public service

  • How to function in a team environment and communicate effectively in a high-stakes context.

EXPECTED OUTCOME:

It is expected that the intern will assist with Annual Report data collection, assist in long-term planning and the coordination of meetings including collateral documents.
