JOB REQUIREMENTS: This is a full-time, temporary position located in the Chemical and Metallurgical Laboratory at Modine's global headquarters. This position has rotational opportunities during spring, summer and fall semesters, with two terms strongly recommended. The incumbent will be mentored in industrial laboratory safety, operations, proper lab techniques, documentation and instrumentation. Areas of support are typically related to failure analysis and manufacturing problem solving. It is typical for this position to have one or more projects of varying background and complexity during the course of the internship. Key Responsibilities: Provide support to routine failure analysis work. Professional development should result in the ability to conduct routine failure analysis work with moderate to limited supervision. Failure analysis sources include field, test and manufacturing problems. Participate in meetings for incoming work and provide analysis recommendations. Utilize active listening skills to understand the needs and requirements. Refine ability to distill seemingly disparate information into a "key question". Identify missing portions of required information in order to be able to sufficiently answer the "key question" and provide that feedback to the requestor(s). Assist in report development and writing. Review past reports to understand and utilize standard report formats for the conveyance of analysis, results and recommendations. The report is the primary product of the lab to disseminate actionable information to the engineering community. Work with laboratory peers and management to prioritize competing work and deadlines. Be able to provide recommendations and material-related design alternatives to other engineering staff to resolve manufacturing or product problems. Utilize critical thinking skills, logic and reasoning to identify strength and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions and approaches to problems. Be able to defend recommendations with reasoning (sometimes with limited data). Provide support to development projects (material, process, and product). May be called on to lead basic materials development projects. Participate and complete required laboratory safety training modules as required. Work to maintain a clean and safe work area. Self-starter with excellent organizational skills. Knowledgeable in standard materials systems including aluminum, copper, steel and stainless steel alloys. Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects with competing timelines and justification. Good interpersonal communication skills for interaction at multiple levels within the company. Good technical communications skills (written and oral) with the ability to convey information for both technical and non-technical audiences. Proficiency in the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
