Takeda San Diego's internship program blends real world experience with an extensive overview of the pharmaceutical industry. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance as you gain professional hands-on experience. The internship is a 1 year (preferably 2 years), part-time internship (10 - 15 hours per week during school time and 30 - 35 hours per week during summer and winter break) which offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company.
The internship is a laboratory position that involves the analysis and characterization of novel chemical compounds to support drug discovery efforts. The intern will learn the proper techniques to operate chromatographic instrumentation while working closely with an analytical chemist in a pharmaceutical research lab.
Become familiar with necessary lab equipments, such as liquid chromatography (LC) systems, supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) systems, and mass spectrometers (MS)
Become proficient with retrieving necessary scientific information from online resources, such as journals, databases, etc.
Purchase and prepare chemicals, reagents, and samples for LC/MS and SFC/MS analysis
Keep an accurate, comprehensible, concise notebook in accordance with company policy
Maintain a safe and organized lab bench
Become proficient with chemistry drawing software (e.g., Chemdraw) and MS office applications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Applicants should be highly motivated with a strong interest in scientific research.
Students must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Successful completion of General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry (lecture and laboratory) is required.
Applicant should demonstrate an excellent academic record in pursuit of a degree in Chemistry, or Biochemistry, or Chemical Engineering, or Biochemical Engineering.
Manual dexterity required to operate standard laboratory and office equipment
Carrying, handling and reaching for objects
Exposure to hazardous/toxic/dangerous chemicals
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
