Description of Internship Opportunity

Work experience opportunities are customized for students who want to gain industry experience while pursuing a Natural Gas Utility Technology Certificate. The successful candidate will be employed through a pipeline contractor while working on a Southwest Gas construction crew, gaining exposure to natural gas operations and maintenance while learning industry safety standards and procedures. Students are required to continue taking classes towards a Natural Gas Utility Technology Advanced Certificate, Associate of Applied Science Degree or other educational paths to further their pathways in a career in natural gas.

Intern Work Schedule: 6:30am-3:00pm/Summer Hours; 7:00am-3:30pm/Fall Hours

Dates of Internship: Start August, 2017

Location Information: Tucson, Arizona

The successful candidate will work on a Southwest Gas Construction crew, gaining exposure to natural gas operations and maintenance while learning industry safety standards and procedures. Students are encouraged to continue taking classes towards a Natural Gas Utility Technology Advanced Certificate, Associate of Applied Science Degree or other educational paths to further their pathways in a career in natural gas.

Interns can expect to gain the following from this Internship:

  • Exposure to the natural gas industry

  • Hands-on experience in a labor entry position

  • Potential for advanced training opportunities (CDL, Pipe Joining, Fire Safety, Competent Person, Emergency Response, Line Locating, Leak Survey)

  • Opportunities to apply for regular full-time positions with SWG or contactors

Internship Qualifications:

  • Self-starter

  • Work well on teams

  • Ability to work outside under extreme weather conditions

  • Desire to learn and adhere to industry safety standards and procedures

  • Conform to a culture of safety and reliability

  • Additionally, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0

  • Most recent semester/quarter GPA greater than or equal to 3.0

  • Unofficial transcript submittal is required with resume

In addition to the Internship Qualifications, our Internship requires the following:

  • Successful completion of PCC’s course, Introduction to the Natural Gas Industry (ICT 101)

  • Continued enrollment in PCC’s Natural Gas Utility Technology Certificate Program

  • PCC program-specific grade point average of 3.0 or higher

  • At least 18 years old

  • Maintain a valid Arizona driver’s and CDL license as condition of employment

  • Obtain CDL within six (6) months of hire date as a condition of your employment

  • Complete physical examination which includes drug screening

  • Background check

  • Successful completion of required training

$11-$12.40 per hour
