The Contracts Summer Internship Program at L3 ForceX offers participants exciting and challenging work assignments as well as training and mentoring in the Contracts Department of a Department of Defense contractor. Interns will gain real world work experience within the Contracts, Subcontracts, and Procurement Department in a fast pace highly competitive work environment. This intern assignment is intended as an introductory level assignment and will involve a range of special projects assisting a team lead on streamlining various business processes within Contracts with opportunities for exposure to, and collaboration with, other departments of the organization. The internship will provide the candidate an opportunity to participate in the implementation of an electronic Contract Management System.
This candidate will also be exposed to day-to-day Contract and Subcontract Administration such as handling contractual documents to prepare for, participate in, and support contract negotiations. Opportunities will be provided to assist in the administration of assigned contracts including the negotiation, execution, modification, claims, correspondence, and closeout and the management and organization of the associated contract documentation. In addition, the candidate will have face-to-face contact with other departments to include, programs, finance, and senior/executive level leadership through leadership lunches, internal meetings, and training events.
Support Contract and Subcontract Administrators with relevant work, to include:
Request for Proposal (RFP) review, proposal preparation, contract negotiations, fact finding, contract analysis and administration, and Government audit activities
Assist with the execution of contracts and the facets of working with contract customers, which may include the U.S. Government, Commercial Customers, International Customers, and Prime U.S. Government Contractors
Conduct contract closeout by working with other program functions to ensure all steps in the closeout process are complete
Review contract modifications and administering contract change notices and special sales orders in Oracle.
Preparation of customer communications via email and/or formal correspondence
Gain knowledge and familiarity with Government (FAR/DFAR) regulations and commercial contract clauses
Assist with tracking contractual deliverables and the applicable reporting requirements
Assist in drafting and executing other contractual agreements, such as Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), Teaming Agreements, Associate Contractor Agreements (ACAs), Export Licensing Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs), Bailment Agreements and Memorandums of Agreement(MOAs)
Support weekly, monthly or quarterly reports; as required by the Business Area
Assist with compiling and maintaining contractual records and documents in accordance with contract requirements and company policies
Complete applicable training
Fulfill special projects as required
Special projects may range in the following areas:
Assist with the implementation of an electronic Contract Management System
Maintain regular updates to the proposal tracker and review and report to the Senior Manager of Contracts/Subcontracts associated metrics produced
Establishment of a database that tracks release of the contract to the organization and state of execution
Enhancement of a formal training program for the Contracts department, including preparation and presentation of Contracts education Power Points
Creation of a contract clause matrix to track obligations to our customer(s)
Creation of common database management tools to ensure easy access to proposal and contractual documentation across the organization
Assist in the resolution of concerns received from the customer
Participate in the preparation of requests for quotation, requests for proposals, bids and proposals
Ensure that all required approvals and notifications are obtained prior to issuance of any/all contract administration actions or documents
Coordinate accomplishment of work with Program Manager and Project Engineer
Assist the contract manager and administrators in providing support for the Contract Management System and administrative matters
Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Juris Doctorate Degree in Business, Project Management, Law, Finance or other related field
Candidates must be at least 18 years old
Must be a U.S. Person (i.e. a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.)
Candidates must currently be attending a university or college and enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate program
Candidates preferably must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0
Successfully pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
The Intern must be able to complete a minimum of a twelve week assignment and work full time for the duration.
Solid oral/written communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment
Detail oriented, hardworking and enthusiastic
Ability to work independently when requested
Must be proficient in MS Office Suite
