The Intern - Information Security Operations, will be a technical resource assisting Kiewit Technology Group teams in driving information security technologies and standards for our organization. The purpose of this position is to primarily support several enterprise security tools and systems that are the backbone for many of the critical applications and business processes. The primary responsibility of this position is the daily monitoring, review and resolution of security events. This position will also contribute towards the creations of technical information security documentation, and provide oversight of new and existing policies, standards and practices, ensuring the underlying policies and procedures are supported. This position will report to the Information Security Supervisor within the Kiewit Technology Group. The Information Security team supports several enterprise tools and systems that are backbone for many of the critical applications and business processes. The Information Security team ensures and enhances the availability, reliability and accessibility of Information security systems and tools and demonstrates Kiewit’s Information Technology (IT) department’s vision and alignment to the business objectives and strategy.


• Supporting role in securing the Kiewit systems and data from potential threats or compromise

• Actively participates in security threat monitoring, attack methods, and incident response

• Cross-department collaboration and communication to ensure appropriate processes, procedures and tools are installed, monitored, and effectively operating and alerting

• Strategy, planning, and operational excellence through continuous improvement and automation

• Provides guidance and awareness of secure solutions and requirements

• Ensure monitoring of alerts and logs from enterprise security tools such as firewalls, IDS, Anti-virus, Data Loss Protection (DLP) and vulnerability scanners

• Document and conform to processes related to security monitoring and detection

• Prioritize workflow; addressing technical and non-technical escalations and satisfaction

• Perform cyber news analysis, security awareness training and recommend new analytic methods for detecting threats

• Participate in knowledge sharing with other analysts to develop various levels of skill sets on the team

• Interface with technical personnel and other teams as required

• Support the information security function within the company as needed

• Stay informed and tuned to security industry trends, potential threats and vulnerabilities


• Current student in computer related field such as Information Assurance, Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering (equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered)

• Understanding of security related technologies such as encryption, IPsec, PKI, VPNs, firewalls, proxy services, password management, MFA, DNS, and access lists

• Familiarity with tools used in security operations and forensics

• Natural curiosity, and a desire to continually learn and improve

• Familiarity in working with API's, syslog, or log agents for data collection

• Experience collecting and using data to build compelling or engaging visuals

• Ability to read and write scripts or sections of code

• Basic understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols

• Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

• Must be able to Identify issues, obtain relevant information, relate and compare data from different sources, and identify alternative solutions

• Must have the ability to write technical information in a clear and concise manner and to be able to convey information appropriately for a variety of audiences

• Must be highly motivated, self-starting and self-directed with the ability to multi-task, work independently and as a part of multiple teams

• Knowledge of the system development life cycle and configuration management
