18332BRPosition Title:Doctoral InternRequisition Number:18332BRCity:RichmondJob Description:We are currently seeking a Doctoral Intern from May 2018-August 2018, to setup the 3rd generation long read minION® (Oxford Nanopore Technologies) sequencing platform, and establishment of python pipeline for post sequencing data processing. The candidate will carry out sequencing of microbial genomes of interest to ALCS, and two or more diploid Nicotiana species, which ALCS is interested in for trait discovery, and he/she will also be responsible for setup of minION® platform for whole transcriptome as well as targeted genes sequencing on the minION®. The candidate will be involved in the setup of a pipeline starting from sequencing of genomes and transcriptomes, to next generation sequencing data analysis involving genome assembly, and annotation. Specific Skills:Qualifications include: BS and MS in a life sciences field, and currently enrolled in Ph.D. program in plant genomics or applied bioinformaticsExperience working with diploid and polyploid plant speciesExperience working with 3rd generation long read sequencing technology such as minION®Proficient in python and shell scripting, and previous experience in genome assembly and annotationAbility to transition between wet laboratory work involved in genome and transcriptome sequencing, and in silico work involving analysis of the genome and transcriptome sequences.Altria Group is a FORTUNE 200 company that owns the premier tobacco companies in the United States including Philip Morris USA, U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company, John Middleton and Nu Mark.
