eBay’s entire business model in Australia is about helping sellers of all sizes (from stay at home mums shifting arts and crafts to multimillion dollar household names selling consumer electronics) to connect with more than 160 million buyers in Australia and around the world.
eBay is in the game of creating opportunity for everyone (buyers and sellers) but it cannot realise its full potential without powerful communications.
This role will work directly with the existing communications team (who look after PR and Internal Comms,) as they work to shift perceptions of eBay the second hand auction house to eBay the best place in the world for brand new products from trusted sellers.
You will be a self-motivated and proactive communicator, who is eager to learn and have some fun along the way. You will believe in the power of a good story and take pride in shaping not only the way people think, but the way they feel.
Work with the team and agency to execute the PR Strategy to support business objectives and key messages
Research and recommend profile raising and speaking opportunities for key executives, managing calendar and necessary approvals
Widely read on industry issues to speak knowledgably on eBay’s position
Edit press materials including releases, Q&A’s and statements
Work closely with the PR agency to distribute press materials in a timely manner
Filing press materials, media coverage etc.
Vet the charity auction requests received by eBay and develop a monthly calendar of activity Manage external suppliers responsible for the technical management of charity auctions
Proactively communicate newsworthy auctions to the press
Be responsible for co-ordination of ‘on-site support’ for appropriate charity auctions
Strong networking and relationship building skills, quickly able to gain trust and confidence with people at all levels
Confident speaker, presenting clearly to all levels of audience
Exceptional editorial skills with the ability to review work quickly and accurately
Attention to detail planning skills
Well honed listening skills with an inquisitive and analytical mind
Ability to translate complex information into simple messages using ‘everyday’ language and to tailor these according to audience culture and understanding
Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects on a broad range of topics
Ability to step back from an issue and see the bigger picture
University student or recent graduate from a media, communications, public relations or journalism focused degree
Savvy online shopper!
